Lazy Sunday Links: The Non-Lazy Edition

As per my March goals, and life goals in general, I’m thinking today about ways to make myself more productive. The perfect day to consider this is obviously on a lazy Sunday, so that I can idly daydream today before springing into action tomorrow. Here are some articles and blog posts I’ve found with tips to increase productivity etc. Some tips are really good and others aren’t, I’m taking it all with a pinch of salt and only paying attention to the ones I’m interested in. As you do.

Have you got any tips and tricks for being more productive, whether it comes to work, exercise, job-hunting, or even socialising? I find it really hard to strike a balance: right now I feel very motivated to do work, both paid and unpaid, but have no desire to exercise, find looking for a full time job unbelievably stressful, and can never seem to find the time or the money to see my friends.

March Goals

  1. Exercise at least 2x a week. My will to exercise appears to have fallen off the face of the planet. The more time I spend being lazy, the lazier I feel, and it’s just a vicious circle. The 30 Day Shred continues to sit on my shelf, in its case, taunting me. I know you’re supposed to do it every day but the last time I tried that I was just sore and miserable so this time I’m just going to do it once or twice a week, and do other things as well. There’s a Zumba class I’d like to attend, and possibly a yoga class as well.
  2. Sell some old clothes on eBay. Or try to, at least. I have a bag of old stuff that I will never wear again, but I have decided is too nice for the charity shop. I’ll whack a link on here when I’ve put them up if anyone wants some bargainous second-hand gladrags!
  3. Read at least 3 books. At least one of these books has to be a paperback.
  4. Be more sociable. I am becoming a hermit and I do not enjoy it.
  5. Bake two new things from the Be-Ro book. I still want a signature dish, damnit, and I haven’t found one yet. I would quite like to try one of the ridiculously fiddly recipes as well.

Do you have any goals for the month of March?

Monday

~ I tried to wear my glasses and think of them as a fashion statement rather than an unwieldy hunk of metal mounted on my face. It didn’t work. Contact lenses ftw. I also wore a stripy jumper, black trousers and sunglasses and pretended to be French. This didn’t work either. Underneath all this I wore the prettiest bra in the world. I really wanted to take a picture of it but don’t think it would be appropriate to share on here. Boo. What do you think to my glasses: fashionable or just practical?

mondaymonday 008

~ The Fifth Child by Doris Lessing was really good, and now I’m reading possibly the bleakest book ever.

mondaymonday 009

~ I embarked on a culinary adventure to make banana bread for the first time. After a fiasco with the bread machine when it just wouldn’t stop mixing no matter what I did, I stuck it in the oven and it looks pretty beautiful to me.

mondaymonday 012

~ I’m going to start exercising regularly in an attempt to not feel so lethargic all the time. I never thought I’d miss the uni gym so much.

mondaymonday 010

~ I’m considering a self-imposed magazine ban. They’re expensive and full of pictures of expensive clothes and conflicting messages about weight, healthy, sexuality, careers, happiness etc. I’ll go back to them eventually but for now, they are just not what I need.

~ I went for an evening walk.

Good Things 002

+ Buying a scrapbook. There’s nothing in yet but it’s beautiful and will soon be filled with beautiful things.

+ Wasabi peas. I bought some on a whim from Tesco and they’re pretty tasty. When I ate the first one it was so spicy I thought I was going to cry, but the spice lasts for about 2 seconds and then gives way to a slightly sweet deliciousness. Nice as snacks, great on salads.

+ My holiday to Italy next month. I’m getting very excited and have made a ridiculously long lists of things I want to see and do. I want churches, gardens, wine, ancient ruins, opera, coffee, Shakespeare plays, pizza, markets, gelato and maybe even a gondola ride. Figuring out what to pack is a bit of a pain because we’re there for 10 days and we’re travelling from place to place, but I would happily wear a sack to wander round Italy at the height of summer.

Oh yes, Grom. Oh yes oh yes oh yes.

+ Seeing the boyfriend a week earlier than expected :)

+ Gilmore Girls. Don’t hate. Guilty pleasure.

+ Running on the treadmill for the first time in… well, far too long. Granted it was only for 20 minutes but it felt good!
